For which transactions is it better to use my credit card – and which are best avoided?
- Cash withdrawals in the eurozone
With most banks, it is best not to withdraw money in the euro zone using a credit card. For each withdrawal, they will charge you a fee which may be as much as EUR 15 at some banks. With your VISA Classic, VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit card from Keytrade Bank, you pay nothing at all to withdraw money from an ATM in the eurozone.
Please note:The total amount of cash withdrawn over a four-day period must not exceed EUR 620.
Some ATMs may charge withdrawal fees, but Keytrade Bank is not responsible for this. The amount is displayed on the ATM at the time of the transaction, and may vary between networks.
- Cash withdrawals outside the eurozone
When using your VISA Classic, VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit card from Keytrade Bank outside the eurozone to make a withdrawal, you will pay EUR 2.00 + 0.40% of the amount withdrawn. If you withdraw money in a currency other than euro, an exchange commission of 1.40% also applies. These fees are identical to the fees that apply if you withdraw cash outside the eurozone with your Keytrade Bank debit card. The total amount of cash withdrawn over a four-day period must not exceed EUR 620.
If you have a VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit card from Keytrade Bank, you should use this card instead of your debit card. If you use these cards, you are insured worldwide against aggravated theft following a cash withdrawal from an ATM. Example: in the event of theft by force up to 4 hours after the cash withdrawal.
- Payments in the eurozone
As with your debit card, no charges apply to payments made with Keytrade Bank VISA Classic, VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit cards within the eurozone – whether online or in store.
- Payments outside the eurozone
It is better to make payments outside the eurozone using your VISA Classic, VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit card from Keytrade Bank rather than your debit card. Payments with your credit card are limited solely to a foreign exchange commission of 1.40%. A debit card adds EUR 2.00 plus 0.40% of the purchase price.
How much does a VISA card cost?
Your VISA card (Classic, Gold or Platinum) with Keytrade Bank is free for the first year and remains free if you use it at least 12 times each year. If you did not use it to make 12 transactions in the previous year, you will pay EUR 25 per year for a VISA Classic card, EUR 50 per year for a VISA Gold card, and EUR 150 per year for a VISA Platinum card.
Log in to your account to find out whether you have already made sufficient payments. Select the “Cards” section in the “Banking” tab. Click "View your transactions". The counter is displayed at the top.
What insurance is included?
You should consult the insurance policy for your VISA card (Classic, Gold or Platinum) for an accurate and legally binding description of the cover and conditions. This can be found in the Document Centre under the “Card insurance” tab. The basics at a glance:
With your VISA Classic, VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit card from Keytrade Bank, you are covered by purchase protection insurance. This insurance applies if a purchased product is damaged or stolen under aggravated circumstances (robbery, break-in, etc.). This safe online insurance covers you for up to EUR 750, EUR 1,000 or EUR 1,500 per claim and per year, respectively.
Do you have a VISA Gold or VISA Platinum credit card from Keytrade Bank? If so, you also benefit from other insurance policies, including travel accident insurance, travel assistance insurance, trip cancellation and interruption insurance and insurance against theft and loss of cash after withdrawal. Do I need to unblock my VISA card when I travel?
You can easily manage the settings and restrictions yourself in your account. You can choose to (un)block your card for certain regions. The same applies to contactless payments, cash withdrawals from ATMs and secure online shopping settings.
You can easily change these by logging in to your account. Select the “Cards” section in the “Banking” tab. Click "Settings". You can also adjust these settings in the app.
What if there is not enough money in my account?
The amount you spend using your VISA card is debited from your current account once a month. The amount is debited from your current account 3 calendar days after the close of the monthly transactions (the last day of the month) or the next business day if, for example, it is a Sunday or public holiday. It is best to make sure you have enough money in your current account. If there is not enough money in your account, you will pay a debit interest rate of 9.11% on the amount you still owe.
The best way to use your credit card is to treat it like a debit card. Only use your credit card for purchases you can pay for with the money in your account.
