2018 was special in many ways
2019 is around the corner and we're all getting ready to make plans and good resolutions. Yet these dark December days also call for some time to reflect. How did 2018 go for our bank? And for you? Are there lessons we can take from what you have shared with us through surveys and our customer service? What, in your opinion, must be improved? What are we doing well? Such a critical reflection allows us to look forward once again and make sure that you are satisfied.
If there is one conclusion at first glance, it is this: in the last year, much attention has been paid to your security and protection with the introduction of various regulations. Perhaps you didn't really notice it, other than in your inbox. You will surely remember the countless mails explaining the ins and outs of the GDPR, meaning that we all now know more about cookies than that blue monster from Sesame Street.
In addition, thanks to MiFID II you will receive detailed information about each stock market order you place. This will take place in advance and in a highly transparent manner. We can only hope that you value this sufficiently so that you need not go looking for such information yourself. In the past year, the stock markets have done what they sometimes do – they fell. After a number of glorious years, they performed less well this year. Every investor knows that bear markets are part and parcel of investing, but nobody likes to be on the receiving end of a bear attack. That feels a little like the semi-final loss to the French in the World Cup. That was 2018, too.
We – and hopefully you, too – will remember the past year as the one in which we at Keytrade Bank revealed how our competitors determine the interest rate for a mortgage. Because, if we're honest, how can we otherwise explain their endless haggling? While we're on the subject of videos, in 2018 we celebrated our twentieth anniversary in an unconventional manner with you. Given the response received, this was appreciated.
Are we therefore saying that everything in 2018 ran smoothly? Of course not. Things can always be better and more transparent, and these are our immediate goals for the coming years. Thank you for your trust in us.
We wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
