The growing world population, the rising food consumption, the changing eating habits or the increasing use of a number of agricultural raw materials as alternative energy source are only some ideas/reasons to invest in agriculture.

Investors interested in agriculture have several possibilities taking into account their own personal knowledge and experience in the different investment products.

Pay attention however that each agricultural raw material has its own price pattern and that agricultural harvests strongly depend on the climate.

Here are some possibilities. The list of examples is not exhaustive and is provided purely informative.

A Tracker is a type of "index fund". It tries to track the performance of a commodity, a stock market index or a basket of shares. It’s in fact a fund or basket of shares, which are continuously quoted on the stock market, just like shares.

Some examples:

A turbo is a stock market quoted investment product that works with a leverage effect, as a result of this, grand movements of the underlying value (such as shares, indexes and raw materials) can influence strongly the value of the turbo.

Click on the secured site on trading, then on invest and afterwards on turbo/speeder. Then click on the button “zoek turbo” / “chercher turbo” (search turbo), select under asset category (asset categorie / catégorie d’actif) raw materials (grondstoffen / matières premières) and as underlying value (onderliggende waarde / valeur sous-jacente) the agricultural raw material in which you want to invest: for example: wheat, Corn, Sugar, Cattle, Palm Oil. The system automatically will search for all turbos on the specified agricultural raw material.

A fund is an investment product by which you invest in a sort of ‘category’ of shares: fe. a specific sector, region, etc.), in our example, a basket of shares related to the agricultural business. The composition of the "basket of shares" will always been stipulated by the fund manager (provider). By clicking on 'Portfolio' (once you have searched the fund) you will see the composition of the fund.

Keytrade Bank offers different funds that invest in agriculture. You can find these by filtering on the category “Energy/Natural Resources” in the search engine.

A certificate is an investment product that normally follows the performance one-on-one of the underlying value. Certificates have no expiry date and are in this way a good investment for the short- or long- term investor who simply wants to diversify his investments. Moreover with Quanto certificates, the exchange risk is covered.

An example is the RICI Agricultural Certificate (NL0000451821).

A futures contract is a standardized contract between two parties to buy or sell a specified asset of standardized quantity and quality at a specified future date at a price agreed today (the futures price).

The futures on agricultural raw materials are directly available on the Keytrade Pro platform.
